High density and strength: Centrifugal force creates a fine-grained, homogeneous microstructure with superior mechanical properties like tensile strength, yield strength, and ductility.
Low porosity and minimal defects: The force pushes lighter impurities and gases to the inner surface, where they can be easily machined away, resulting in a solid, dense casting with minimal porosity and virtually no cavities or blowholes.
Directional solidification: The process provides directional solidification, preventing shrinkage and enhancing material integrity.
Improved wear resistance: The dense, refined grain structure increases wear resistance, making parts suitable for high-stress applications.
Horizontal Centrifugal Casting
Horizontal centrifugal casting refers to the casting process in which the mould’s spin axis is parallel to the ground. The horizontal axis arrangement enables the production of castings with a very high length-to-diameter ratio.
Vertical Centrifugal Casting
In vertical centrifugal casting, the mould spins along the vertical axis, perpendicular to the ground. This technique is more suitable for products with a short length-to-diameter ratio. Typically, the length should be less than twice the product’s width for optimal results in vertical centrifugal casting.
